Thomas Alva Edison School is an institution dedicated to teaching from pre-kinder to twelfth grade and an Early Childhood Development Center from 18 months on.   It is a LAICO institution, founded on September 12, 1966 known as Edison Institute.  It was the first private school to offer Kindergarten services in Caguas.

It began as a rented house in the outskirts of San Lorenzo.  From there it was moved to another house in the Second Section of Villas del Rey and subsequently in the year 1971-1972 it was moved to another house in Urb. El Verde.  There, enrollment grew considerably and services were offered up to the eighth grade.  Later, for the 1972-1973 academic year the School was moved to Jose Gautier Benítez Street.  From there, in February 1974 the first stone was placed on the grounds acquired in Alturas Villa del Rey.  In 1982, the first Twelfth Grade graduation was accomplished.

Dr. Teresita Abella founded and directed this educational institution for 25 years reaching solid prestige in the Caguas community.  From 1991 the School was directed by a new Board presided by Dr. Félix Rodríguez Matos.  In August 1998 until February 2001 a new Board was constituted presided by Mr. Rubén López Huertas.

As of March 1st, 2001, Thomas Alva Edison School is run by the Collazo-Claudio Family and its Board of Directors of which Dr. Carmen Zoraida Claudio is the President.  From this time on the School has evolved into a bilingual education institution with emphasis in the development of an educational community in which the student actively participates as a leader in the development of citizens who are conscientious of their personal and social responsibilities.
